Helping Canadians navigate life’s biggest money moves with a clear financial game plan

At Uptown Wealth Management, we help professionals, families, and business owners make smart decisions when money is in motion. That could be an inheritance, a job change with a pension or severance decision, a separation, a business sale, a real estate move, or the transition into retirement. These moments come with real deadlines and real consequences—so we help you slow the play down, see the full ice, and build a game plan before you make a decision you can’t easily undo.

What drives you, drives us!

What drives you, drives us!

Major life transitions have a way of bringing everything to the surface at once—emotion, pressure, opportunity, and uncertainty. You may be excited about what’s possible… and still want to make sure you don’t make a costly mistake in the moment.

We’ve seen it again and again: it’s rarely one big decision that creates regret—it’s moving too fast without a plan. Our mission is to bring structure, patience, and clarity to the moments that matter most, so you can make decisions that support the future you’re building.

What makes us different?

What makes us different?

Unlike advisors who lead with products or portfolios, we take a game-plan-first approach.

When money moves, the right question usually isn’t “What should I invest in?” It’s: “What does this decision change—and what do I need to protect?”

We act like your financial coach: we help you organize the moving parts (tax timing, cash flow, protection, retirement, estate coordination) and map out your options so you’re not forcing the play under pressure. When the plan is clear, the next move gets a lot easier.

Money in Motion Moments and Who We Help:

These are the moments where money moves quickly—the puck drops and decisions come fast. If you’re navigating one of the transitions below, we help you slow the play down, understand your options, and build a clear plan before you make a move that’s hard to undo.

Inheritance / estate settlement

Slow the play down and make sure taxes, cash flow, and long-term goals are coordinated before you invest or spend a dollar.

Job change

From pension options, severance, bonus, stock compensation, to benefits changes. Don’t make a quick line change—review your pension and payout options so one decision doesn’t ripple for decades.

Divorce or separation

Financial clarity before agreements are finalized. Get full-ice clarity on housing, pensions, insurance, and retirement before anything gets signed.

Business sale or major liquidity event

The cheque is only step one—build a plan for taxes, income, protection, and what’s next before you deploy the proceeds.

Retirement transition

Turning savings into income, timing decisions. Turn what you’ve built into a steady income game plan with smart timing and tax-aware withdrawals.

Real estate sale, downsizing, or major move

Treat the proceeds like a strategy move—plan for taxes, liquidity, and how it fits your bigger timeline.

Loss of a spouse or parent

Create calm and clarity during a hard season by organizing the decisions, timelines, and next steps before taking action.

Meet your financial advisor & coach for life’s biggest plays

I’m Brett, founder of Uptown Wealth Management—a financial advisor who helps Canadians make smart decisions when money is in motion.

That might be an inheritance, a job change with a pension or severance decision, a separation, a business sale, a real estate move, or the transition into retirement. These are the moments where the next decision matters—and where a clear game plan can prevent an expensive turnover.

With over two decades in financial services and a lifelong passion for hockey, I’ve learned that good financial planning looks a lot like a good power play: you slow the game down, keep your head up, and see the full ice before you force a move.

My role is to help you build a financial strategy that supports your goals—today and in the long run—by bringing clarity to the moving parts: cash flow, investing, taxes, insurance, retirement, and estate planning coordination.

My approach is built on flexibility, trust, and real-life solutions. I know your schedule is full—and your financial plan shouldn’t feel like another job. That’s why I focus on making the process straightforward, calm, and easy to follow, especially during seasons of change.

When I’m not helping clients build their game plan, you’ll find me at the rink, on the golf course, or cheering on my two boys in their own sports journeys.

Let’s build a financial game plan that works for you—so you can move through life’s biggest transitions with structure, confidence, and a plan that holds up over time.
